Back from the beach
By 7:00 pm this evening, we had both Emily and Ally tucked into bed and Dave and I sat exhausted on the couch cherishing the wonderful weekend we had at the beach. I had wanted to go to Galveston for my birthday and spend some time at the beach, but after much research, Dave and I decided it would be just too expensive to do that. My mom had heard about all of this and she and my dad decided to invite us to go to Port Aransas, Tx with them and spend the weekend at the beach. We were originally going to go last weekend for my birthday, but since it was Memorial Day weekend, we decided this weekend would be better. We made the four and a half hour drive after Dave got home from work on Thursday. Port Aransas has been the vacation spot for my family for the last 30 years (according to my parents). It is a very small island about 30 minutes south of Corpus Christi, Tx. To get onto the island, you have to take the ferry. There are tons of cute cottages and houses to stay at and the beach is as nice as you can get in Texas. We got to the cottage my parents had rented at about 10:30 pm on Thursday. We put the girls to bed and talked with my parents for a minute before crashing into bed ourselves. Friday, we got up, went to breakfast, and then spent the rest of the morning at the beach. Emily was scared of the waves but Ally dove right in. Ally was fearless and became very angry if you tried to move her away from the water. Emily made a friend, and Dave spent the morning building sand objects with them. We headed back to the cottage for lunch and nap time. When everyone woke up, my dad and Dave headed off for a 4 hour fishing trip into the ocean. They had a ton of fun, and no one threw up. My mom and I took the girls to dinner and then we rented a movie and put the girls to bed. My two youngest sisters, Christy and Johannah arrived at about 10:30 to spend the rest of the weekend with us. Saturday started out the same way as Friday and after the girls were down for their naps. My mom, sisters, and I headed off to do some shopping. After the girls naps, we went to some souvenir shops and then went to dinner. After dinner, we headed to the beach for a long walk were Emily ran into the ocean in her clothes and became soaked. Dave let her take off her clothes and run around in the water as we walked. She had a blast and she finally conquered her fear of the waves. My parents had offered to babysit the girls so that Dave, my sisters and I could go into Corpus to see a movie. We got home way too late and woke up way too early. Sunday was a looong day. We got up and ate breakfast, then headed to the beach one last time. We took another long walk and then headed back to the cottage to pack up. Everyone was exhausted and Emily and Ally were in desperate need of their old routine. Dave and I headed out at about 10:30 am and we made it home by 3 pm. We had checked out the Chronicals of Narnia audio books from the library for the trip, and that made the car ride go by quickly. Emily and Ally slept for a good portion of the trip as well. We were all sad to leave my family and the beach, but we are glad to be back in our own house and sleeping in our own beds (a side note, there was one bathroom in our cottage for 6 adults and 1 potty training kid and Dave and I had to sleep on a tiny bed in a tiny room only big enough to fit the bed.). Unfortunately we forgot our camera and don't have any pictures of the wonderful weekend but we are thinking about doing the girls joint b-day party in Port A, so hopefully we can get some pictures then.
