We did it (to the tune of Dora)!

We made it through the school year! Today was our last day and it was such a fun day. They rented a big blow-up air jumper thing for all of the kids to play with and we had a pizza party for lunch. There are things I am definitely going to miss about going to school, but I am also really looking forward to summer and not having to follow a schedule. Yay summer!!

Quick Update

On Sunday, Emily started coughing and yesterday it became worse as the day wore on. She woke up from her nap yesterday afternoon with a fever of 101 and complaining her chest hurt. I called the doctor and they said to start up her breathing treatments again and bring her in to the doctor this morning. We went to the doctor and found out Emily has an ear infection and her breathing sounded wheezy again. She got three more prescriptions, on top of one she is already on and her breathing treatments. The doctor thinks something at the beach could have triggered this episode and it makes her more firm in the decision that it is allergy/asthma related. We were able to go to school today but the doctor didn't recommend Emily going on her field-trip. I think that was the worst part of the day for Emily and me because Emily has been talking about this field-trip for a long time now and she was really looking forward to it. She had to watch her class line up and head off to a day of fun while she stayed behind to help me in my class. Poor kid!

In case you haven't already heard about Emily, here is the story. On Monday, two weeks ago, Emily starting coughing, nothing major but by 11 pm it had turned into wheezing and painful, labored breathing. I went back and forth on taking her to the emergency but when she finally fell asleep at midnight, I decided to just wait until morning. Tuesday morning I called the doctor's office to make an appointment and they told me to come in as soon as possible because it sounded like she needed a breathing treatment. When we got there, they checked her breathing level and it was really low so they gave her a breathing treatment. They put her on a steroid and told me I needed to buy a nebulizer so we could continue breathing treatments at home. The doctor thought her breathing problems might be a result of asthma brought on by the storms we had been having. She wanted us to come back on Wednesday for a follow-up. Wednesday they took some blood from Emily and found out her white blood count was high and she had crackling in her lungs. The doctor thought it might be pneumonia and sent us to have her x-rayed. They also gave her 2 shots of an antibiotic. That night the doctor called and let us know the x-ray was clean which meant it wasn't pneumonia. She wanted us to come back on Thursday but since she isn't in on Thursday we had to see her co-doctor. Thursday was really frustrating because the doctor couldn't compare her breathing to anything so she didn't know for sure if Emily was getting better or worse. She said she wanted us back on Friday but after seeing my facial expression said it wasn't necessary to come back until Tuesday unless she had a fever. Tuesday we went back to the doctor and her lungs sounded clear. The doctor said she is more convinced it is asthma related. We are supposed to keep her on Singulair (a long-term allergy medicine) for 6 weeks and then go back for a follow-up.
So as of right now we are not sure what she has but she has been healthy and well for about a week.

Mother's Day at the Beach!

It has been a crazy couple of weeks around here, so we thought we would go to Galveston for Mother's Day. We had a blast playing in the sand and water. Last summer when we went to the beach, I felt I had to sit on Ally to keep her from crawling into the water so it was so much fun to watch her run around and play with Emily and not have to worry about her killing herself. Emily and Ally spent the first 10 minutes running away from the waves but by the end of the day, they loved the water and jumping into the waves. Dave had to work part of the day Saturday so it was a great day to relax on his only day off this week.
